Misconceptions about roundabouts (AKA rotaries)

I was listening to Bob & Brian on WHQG (102.9 FM in Milwaukee) this morning about 7:45 AM or so, and they were talking about the twin roundabouts at the interchange of I-43 and Moorland Rd. (exit 57) in New Berlin. They mentioned how dangerous they were. I COMPLETELY DISAGREE. I have been using roundabouts for about four years now, and find them fairly simple to navigate.

State Rep. Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) wrote a blog last fall on roundabouts in New Berlin and this blog that she wrote is full of inaccuracies. She mentions that I-43 and Racine Ave. is in Muskego. Unless New Berlin gave Muskego approx. 1 sq. mile of land recently, that interchange is still entirely in New Berlin. She also mentioned how difficult it is for trucks to negotiate roundabouts. I have no trouble using the roundabout in Milwaukee near S. 6th St. and W. Florida St.

I'm not entirely in favor of all these roundabouts that the Wisconsin DOT is building lately, but proper education should be given. Maybe the DOT can air commercials demonstrating the proper use?

GM CEO asked to step down...

General Motors Corp. Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner to step down at the request of the White House.

What the he** is going on? This sounds fishy...or at least very peculiar...

I guess an announcement is coming Monday on plans for the auto industry and maybe an answer or 20...

Earth Hour tonight...

Anyone else think this "Earth Hour" thingamajiggy tonight is kind of dumb? I plan on protesting by turning ON every single light for that hour. Take that Earth Hour!

UPDATED (Mar. 28, 7:46 PM): Turning them ALL ON as we speak...

Sirius NFL's Moving the Chains NFL Draft prediction...

For the second Friday in a row, Sirius NFL Radio's (Sirius/XM 124) "Moving the Chains" predicts that the Packers will select OT Andre Smith (Alabama) with the 9th pick overall.

Smith left the Scouting Combine without telling anyone. He also was suspended for Alabama's bowl game.

At first I was against this possible pick based on his character issues. I hope that if the Packers select him next month that he can put these issues behind him.

FedEx Profit Dives 75 Percent

Doesn't sound good. For those that don't know, I am a truck driver for FedEx. I'm also a stock holder, so this is hitting me two-fold.

Tale of two former Packer DBs in the Big Easy...

The New Orleans Saints signed free agent and former Packer S Darren Sharper Wednesday. On Thursday, they released another former Packer, CB Mike McKenzie.

I'm glad to see Sharper get another job. I always liked him. Very entertaining personality.

As for McKenzie, he can rot in hell. He whined and cried his way out of Green Bay under Mike Sherman and never was any better with the Saints. Poor baby. NOT!

Stallworth may have been drunk driving...

Cleveland Browns WR Donte' Stallworth may have been drunk when he hit and killed a pedestrian in Miami, FL March 14th. Reports are conflicting and the Miami Police refuse to confirm that Stallworth was drunk at the time.

Why mention the digital TV transition on the digital TV channel?

I'm watching WTMJ-DT (4.1 digital in Milwaukee) right now and they just ran a crawl about the DTV transition on June 12th.

Anyone watching this particular feed DOES NOT NEED TO KNOW THIS INFORMATION. Put it on the old analog channel for the LAZY PEOPLE that ignored the old Feb. 17th deadline to see. I'm sure it won't help anyway. They'll just whine when the analog feed GOES DARK. That's the only way they'll learn...

Wisconsin may end vehicle license plate stickers?

Governor Jim Doyle (D-Wis.) wants to eliminate the practice of pasting registration stickers on vehicle license plates.

This sounds like a good idea, what with the theft by criminals of these stickers. This issue is far from over however. Various police and sheriff organizations across the state are weighing in on both sides of the issue. Stay tuned...

Packers sign S Anthony Smith

The Green Bay Packers signed free agent S Anthony Smith, who recently played with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ummm...okay. Didn't think we needed help at safety. After looking over Smith's notes in my database, he'll probably be no more than a possible special teams player. Doesn't have the tools necessary to start in the NFL.

The Packers are now even in the free agency sweepstakes: 1 loss and 1 gain.

Brian Bosworth arrested for DUI...

Former NFL player-turned-actor Brian Bosworth was arrested in Hollywood on suspicion of driving under the influence.

It seems that he can't play football anymore. Can't act either. Might as well drink and drive then...

Drew Rosenhaus can predict the future! Behold!

Drew Rosenhaus, agent for recently released WR Terrell Owens, predicts his client will have a new team by the end of next week. Oh really? Mr. Rosenhaus, tell your client to play nice for his new team and keep his mouth shut. Are you putting T.O. up to all this whining?

Al Franken's crying in Minnesota...

The Minnesota Supreme Court on Friday blocked Democrat Al Franken's petition for an election certificate that would put him in the U.S. Senate without waiting for a lawsuit to run its course.

Between Franken and Roland Burris in Illinois, they better make sure that the U.S. Senate has plenty of facial tissues for these sniffling idiots...wah wah wah...

Locally-made HDTV antennas

I just watched a news story on WITI, channel 6 in Milwaukee, about a Sheboygan County business with an interesting concept for a HDTV antenna.

WITI "suspends" some weekend newscasts

WITI-TV/DT, channel 6 in Milwaukee, is suspending some weekend newscasts starting in April. The affected newscasts are: both Saturday and Sunday morning, 6 PM Saturday and 5 PM Sunday.

Cowboys release S Roy Williams

The Dallas Cowboys also released S Roy Williams today, along with T.O.

They probably couldn't take two Roy Williams' (the other being a WR) being on the team anymore...

Marshawn Lynch pleads guilty to gun charge

Buffalo Bills RB Marshawn Lynch pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge today and was sentenced to community service and probation.

And to think that two years ago, I wanted the Packers to draft him. They drafted perennial bust Justin Harrell instead. I'm still wondering if and when Harrell will show up on the field...

Cowboys released T.O.

Fox Sports Radio NFL Insider Jay Glazer is reporting this morning that the Dallas Cowboys will release WR Terrell Owens. Numerous other sources are also reporting this.

UPDATE (Mar. 5, 4:49 PM): It's official.

Comedian Lange praises Uecker...

Comedian Artie Lange, appearing on CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman" Tuesday night, offered a nice story about Mr. Baseball.

Lange mentioned how he and fellow comedian Norm McDonald spent some time with Bob Uecker. Uecker worked the "cough" button between plays and was able to hold a completely different conversation with his guests than he was with the Brewers radio audience. Pretty interesting stuff.

Braun will appear on Letterman

OF Ryan Braun of the Brewers will appear with some members of Team USA Thursday night on the CBS late-night talk show, "Late Show with David Letterman."

Braun will be a part of Letterman's nightly Top Ten list.

Gagne's shoulder ailing

RHP Eric Gagne's throwing shoulder is ailing and his chances of being in the Brewers' bullpen are in jeopardy.

Why are we still screwing around with this BIG BUST???

Gallardo signs, pitches

RHP Yovani Gallardo agreed to a contract with the Brewers for 2009 this morning and will pitch today against the Colorado Rockies.

This came as news to me. I thought he was already signed...

S Adams visits Packers

Free agent S Mike Adams is in Green Bay today visiting the Packers.

Adams played for the Cleveland Browns last season.

Is this the first player seriously brought in by the Packers? Didn't free agency start on Friday? Just wondering...

RB Ward to Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed RB Derrick Ward to a four-year, $17 million contract today.

Ward previously played for the New York Giants.

WR Houshmandzadeh to Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks signed WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Houshmandzadeh had played previously with the Cincinnati Bengals and played collegiate football at Oregon State University.

Houshmandzadeh also visited with the Minnesota Vikings before signing with the Seahawks.

Coast Guard will call off search in Gulf...

The U.S. Coast Guard will call off the search at sundown today for three missing boaters in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Clearwater, FL.

The three missing are: Corey Smith, NFL free-agent defensive lineman; Marquis Cooper, linebacker for the Oakland Raiders of the NFL and Will Bleakley, former football player at the University of South Florida (USF).

On Monday, the Coast Guard rescued Nick Schuyler, another former football player at USF. Schuyler was found clinging to the overturned boat and renewed hopes of rescuing the other three boaters.

This doesn't sound good for the three missing men.

Redskins release Taylor

The Washington Redskins released DE/LB Jason Taylor today.

Taylor spent one season with the 'Skins. Taylor is best known spending all but last year with the Miami Dolphins, as well as being on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars."

Could have some gas left. Maybe the Packers could look at him. Has some experience in a hybrid 3-4 scheme.

Boat found, 3 still missing...

The U.S. Coast Guard found that fishing boat off of Florida's Gulf Coast, with one of the four boaters clinging to it.

Nick Schuyler, a former University of South Florida football player, was found clinging to the boat. He is one of four former football players that were reported missing late Saturday night.

Still missing are Corey Smith, Marquis Cooper and Will Bleakley. Smith and Cooper most recently played with the NFL's Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders, respectively.

The Coast Guard is narrowing their search for the three near where the boat was discovered. Let's hope for the best...

Can someone please check Ted's vital signs?

Free agent DT Chris Canty signed with the New York Giants today because, as Canty's agent puts it, Canty took the "sure thing."

It appeared that the Green Bay Packers were "interested," but wouldn't talk hard contract terms. I can understand not wanting to guarantee too much money, Mr. Ted Thompson, but Canty would've been a nice DE in the 3-4 scheme (possibly).

Will anyone up in Green Bay please do a goodwill check on the Packers GM? While you're at it, could you give him a clue or something? Thanks.

DT Cole a Seahawk

Packers GM Ted Thompson really did it this time. He let free agent DT Colin Cole test the market and now he signed with the Seahawks. Ted? Ted? Time to wake up Ted! Ted? Ted?

2 NFL players reportedly missing at sea

Detroit Lions DE Corey Smith and Oakland Raiders LB Marquis Cooper were aboard a boat off the Gulf Coast of Florida very early this morning when the boat was reported missing.

Siegfried and Roy's surprise guest last night...

As I blogged about yesterday, Siegfried and Roy held a charity show at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. S&R's surprise guest? None other than Montecore, the tiger that attacked Roy Horn over 5 years ago!
